Arsenal thrashed Porto 4-0 in Champions' League Group match this morning

http://arsenalgunnersfire.blogspot.com

Robin Van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor each scored two goals as Arsenal whipped Porto 4-0 in a Champions League Group G match early this morning.

Porto was the unfortunate recipient of a complete mauling as Arsenal bounced back from a shock 1-2 defeat against Hull City in the English Premier League on Saturday to humiliate Porto with a breathtaking display of movement and passing.

Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger was furious at the dismayed performance after the Hull defeat and had threatened to drop under-performing stars.

Arsenal certainly looked like they had suffered a hangover at the early stage as Porto almost led through a Cristian Rodriguez header that hit the top of the bar.

Arsenal survived a few more close shaves as Manuel Almunia and Gael Clichy had to be alert to ensure the scoreline stayed 0-0.

Arsenal resumed their dominance and was rewarded with a 30-minute goal by Robin Van Persie as Adebayor combined expertly with Robin with a series of astonishing moves before Robin finished the moves with a goal.

Emmanuel Adebayor ensured Arsenal held a comfortable lead before half-time by scoring a header in the 40th minute.

Robin killed off the match 3 minutes after half-time when he stabbed home the third goal after Theo Walcott tormented Porto with his pace.

Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner, who came on for Robin Van Persie in the 65th minute, was brouht down by a clumsy tackle from Guarin in the 70th minute. Emmanuel Adebayor ensured he got his second goal of the night by smashing the penalty home.

UEFA President Michel Platini Scolded by His Father For Blasting Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger

michel platini
Arsene Wenger

UEFA President Michel Platini has backtracked on his aggressive criticism on Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger after his father Aldo Platini scolded him for his verbal attack.

Even his father Aldo Platini couldn't accept his irresponsible remarks.

The League Managers' Association has also leapt to the defence of the Gunners boss.

Despite being put in his place by his father, Michel insisted he did not like the idea of clubs who sign emerging talent at a young age.

Just ask the number of soccer stars that Arsene Wenger has groomed over the years and how many countries have benefited from Arsene's wisdom and courage to recruit top youth talent.

Did any of the young emerging talent ever complain they were mistreated when they signed for Arsenal?

Ask Cesc Fabregas and Theo Walcott!

Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger Disappointed with Leakage of Top Secret Pep-Talk in National Paper

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger expressed his defiance and disappointment after a report revealing his pep-talk before the Bolton game on Saturday appeared in a national newspaper on Monday.

It seemed an employee or a guest at the Bolton Hotel found the report and sold it to the national paper.

The media had suggested the pep-talk was done by a psychologist.

Arsene strongly refuted the suggestion in an interview done by Arsenal official website.

"That is not true. The meeting was done by me and only me."

"What came out of the meeting is what we have done many times. We want to be humble and play for each other."

What I regret is when you leave a sheet in a five-star hotel you find it in a newspaper the next day. That means you cannot trust anybody. Someone finds a sheet that has 'confidential' written on it they give it to the newspapers. People wouldn’t rather give it back to the team or throw it away. "

“You cannot accept this type of behaviour because if you leave £20 in your room you will not find it again as well. It’s the same. "

“But I must stress that we have nothing to hide. Every team wants to behave almost the same and we are proud of the qualities on that sheet.”

p.s: I was thinking if I should reveal the details in my post a day earlier. "Top Secret Revealed on how Arsene Wenger Motivated His Players " http://arsenalgunnersfire.blogspot.com/2008/09/top-secret-revealed-on-how-arsene.html
Based on the pageviews that I was receiving for the post, there were keen interest from readers. Decided against publishing the sensitive information as it was classified as confidential and it would be unethical to reveal such details.

How much do you know about the Arsenal Gunners that clobbered Sheffield United last night?

Arsenal fielded several "unknown" reserves that would make some Gunners fans wonder who they are.

Kieran Gibbs
Midfielder, 18 years old, made his second appearance for A
Arsenal. His first appearance was against Sheffield United too in the Carling Cup last year.

Mark Randall
Midfielder, 18 years old, made his fifth appearance for Arsenal. It is his second start for the club.

Francis Coquelin
Midfielder, 17 years old, made his debut last night for Arsenal (joined the Gunners from French side Laval)

Henri Lansbury
Midfielder, 17 years old, made his second appearance coming on as a second half substitute.

Jay Simpson
Striker, 19 years old made his official debut for Arsenal against Sheffield United. He was on-loan at Millwall last season scoring 6 goals for the London side.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes the new rule for 7 substitutes will help Arsenal's Carling Cup kids as young Gunners who have already played in the first team would be able to mentor those who have yet to play for Arsenal in a senior competitive match.

"The increase in substituitions is an advantage because they start to taste and to smell the importance of the games and the pressure in the dressing rooms. They see how the experienced players handled it," said Arsene.

Arsenal Young Gunners Demolished Sheffield United 6-0 In Carling Cup

Arsenal starlets justified Arsenal Wenger's faith in them by whipping Sheffield United 6-0 in a Carling Cup third round match this morning.

Mexican whizkid Carlos Vela hit a fine hat-trick, Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner scored a double while Jack Wilshere scored a goal.

Even Sheffield United boss was amazed by the amazing performance from the Young Gunners.

"They are the best group of youngsters I've EVER seen in all my time in the game."

"Put them against ANY team in the world of that age and they would walk it."

"I've asked Arsene if I can borrow all 11 of them for Saturday."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was obviously delighted to see his starlets live up to his expectations and he declared: "We can go all the way to win the Carling Cup - and I want to do it with these players. No matter how far we go in the competition, or who we come up aainst, I'll stick with them."

"They are the best group I've ever had because there is not one player in any position who does not have the real quality of the Premier League. Even I was surprised at how well they have done tonight."

"The biggest challenge is for the club to keep them all together and slowly integrate them into the first team. Many of them already play there."

With such an excellent performance from the Young Gunners, no one could accuse Arsene Wenger of devaluing the importance of the Carling Cup by fielding his reserves. Just ask Sheffield United.

Dream Scenario next May: Arsenal tops the League Table while Tottenham finishes bottom

It's a dream scenario come next May - Arsenal top English Premier League Table while Tottenham Hotspurs finishes bottom of the Table.

Most Gunner fans would have realised the stark contrast in the Table positions between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs.

After 5 matches, Tottenham Hotspurs is already 10 points off the pace with two draws and three losses.

Tottenham Hotspurs manager Juande Ramos had insisted his team would need more than 20 matches to find their form. By then, it would have cost him his job if Tottenham is still bottom of the table.

Darren Bent has even claimed he would score 30 goals even though he had only scored a mere 8 goals in the last season.

Even Arsenal legend Ian Wright felt Tottenham owner Daniel Levy might be looking for a new manager based on their past history.

It's justified though for Daniel to expect results this year as Tottenham has splurged out more than $50 million pounds on new signings.

(Martin Jol, the ex-manager of Tottenham, currently bosses Hamburg in the German Bundesliga and Hamburg is placed fourth, just one point of the leaders Schalke 04 after 5 matches. It won't be surprising if Tottenham owner Daniel feels like kicking his teeth now about his decisision to replace Martin Jol when he was having a dry spell at Tottenham if he knows this.)

It's another proof that signing players at overly-inflated prices does not guarantee success.

The 19-year-old Wales Under-21 international had arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Cardiff during the summer. He had rejected an opportunity to join the Red Devils.

"I have never seen anybody as quick as Theo Walcott in my life," said Nolan. "I said to Samuel to give him a little kick and see if he comes back at you!"

p.s: Arsene Wenger is right to call for more protection for Theo Walcott. Besides, Bolton and Blackburn are known to be physical-playing sides.
